What are your thoughts/experiences with No-Poo hair washing method?

Hey folks 🫡

Has anyone tried washing their hair without shampoo, for like let's say 1 month? If so, can you please share your experiences (positives and negatives) and do you recommend it? I have heard a lot about the no poo method and people warning about the damaging effects of the regular shampoos we're using. But what about sulfate-free and other natural shampoos, are they also damaging? Are these claims even legit? I'm really confused what to believe 🤯

I cant imagine washing my hair without shampoo for a long time. whenever i wash my hair without shampooing for more than 2 or 3 times dandruff starts immediately nd gets oily. very annoying

That's also another concern! they're saying we can use apple cider vinegar or baking soda as cleansing agents instead of shampoo. Let's see I might try it for 2 weeks and share my thoughts

@Leyla I have tried it for 5 weeks and it just felt so weird😣. The first week I only washed my hair with water (no other cleansing agents whatsoever), only applied conditioner to hydrate my hair.
The second week, I noticed my hair is getting oily and limp (btw I naturally have fine wavy hair with some slight curls). By the end of the 2nd week I felt so disgusted and had the urge to wash my hair with a shampoo but I resisted so much and washed it with water only. I was home alone so no pressure LOL

The 3rd week was the worst for me, I was too close to giving up this whole experiment and go back to my regular hair washing routine. My hair was getting sticky, the curls are weighed down and my hair was shedding a lot. So I decided to give it a citrus rinse.
I diluted apple cider vinegar with water and rinsed my hair with it >> and no it doesn't smell bad, if that's what you're worried about. Just don't forget to moisturize with a good conditioner or else it will leave your hair dry. That's the mistake I did 🫣 I forgot to put conditioner after rinsing with the apple cider. So my hair was super dry and frizzy.

After the 3rd wash with apple cider vinegar, my hair was looking fine not too oily like the time I washed it with water only. I guess the citrus rinse helped remove the greasiness and buildup. I also noticed that my hair was not curling like before.

Week 4, I continued washing with the apple cider vinegar but this time I didn't skip conditioning. It felt better, more hydrated and better defined. But as @BrainyBoss said I started having dandruff more than usual. I guess I needed something to scrub my scalp not just wash off the extra oil. I tried baking soda. I made a paste from baking soda and water and scrubbed my scalp with it hoping it will remove dandruff. and clean the scalp from buildup. Then I washed it off with water and a final rinse with citrus rinse (vinegar + water). I didn't any difference on week 5, the dandruff is still there and my curls are not as lively as they were.

So this was when I decided to call off this experiment and go back to my regular routine.

Bottom Line: I do not recommend the no poo hair washing method. At least it didn't work for me 🤷‍♀️ I guess we just need to be more mindful of the type of shampoo we're using and understand the ingredients.

Thank you for sharing your experience. A lot of the things you mentioned is what makes me hesitate. I guess I'll try using natural shampoos and see the difference it makes.
